With Spring here, York Region is reminding homeowners and cottagers with private water supplies to “put them to the test”. In Georgina, water sample test bottles and forms can be picked up at the front desk of the Georgina Civic Center (26557 Civic Centre Road, North off Woodbine Ave. between Sutton and Keswick), during business hours, Monday to Friday. HOWEVER, water samples are only picked up by York Region from the Civic Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and sample have to be dropped off before NOON on those days.
Our neighbour and local Real Estate expert, Jackie McEachern, shares these tidbits and has offered to host a quick clinic on the Sunday of the May long weekend (May 18th) to demonstrate the proper and sterile manner in which to collect samples from your own place. Residents can then take their own samples on Monday evening, refrigerate overnight, and drop off their samples at the Town office on Tuesday morning.
-
Samples must be taken in a sterile manner.
-
Samples must be taken within 24 hours of submitting for testing.
-
Samples must be refrigerated immediately after test and kept refrigerated (transport in ice pack) until submission at the Town.
If anyone is interested in attending a clinic on Water sample testing, please RSVP via this website and we will find a suitable location to host the session (any volunteers?). Jackie can then pre-order a bulk amount of testing kits and bring them to the gathering for distribution.
